- 2-Wire technology is the most reliable and not easily prone to interference since it deploys differential signal scheme therefore signal-to-noise ratio is very improved. The disadvantage may be that it requires additional wiring but it's not a problem when house is under construction. Reconfiguring needs no modification as conventional wiring since just a re-programmable is enough. Troubleshooting in case of failure is very rare happen because all devices are safely protected in the wall.
- Infrared or IR is mostly used for handheld remote control and it works very well but can only control in one room as the infrared signal can only travel where there is visual proximity from the remote control to the sensor. Infrared signal cannot travel through the walls or opaque surface.
- Radio Frequency or RF is able to control the entire home without wiring although it is susceptible to interference and the receivers are relatively expensive. Available in Thailand such as WhyWire lighting control system or some security systems.
- Power Line Communication or PLC is a technology that utilize the existing AC line as a bus of a system. PLC is likely susceptible to interference from non-quality non-standard home appliances like electronic ballast, air condition, etc. No national PLC interference standard right now so it is hard to say it would work in household in the meantime.
Combining wireless and wireline technologies makes Hybird Home Automation none of disadvantages. 2-wire bus technology can control the entire home and it is not subject to interference and regulations as the radio frequency.
